I have always held a deep respect for the ancient teachers, mystery schools and temples of spiritual learning that have encourage man to broaden his definition of what it is to be human. However, when the idea for the idea for the institute of New Thought came to me it seemed to come at the most inopportune time. I had been running a marketing company for eight years at the time and had chosen to stop taking on clients to focus on a single project that I believe would change the direction of my life. When that project came to an abrupt end, I sought for weeks to pull myself out of one of the most painful heart breaks I had ever experienced.
I relied on every spiritual tool and principle I had ever uncovered throughout my very colorful religious turned spiritual past to move to the next point in my life. I was out of business and had no plans. Amazingly, that was the undisguised blessing. I was out of business and had no plans; and for the first time in my life I was willing to inquire deeply and honestly into what my maker was seeking to express as my life. During the middle of a meditation one evening the idea of the Institute came into my awareness. I immediately left the meditation and began to take notes.
I had placed the idea on my list of long-term goals. It was something that I planned to pursue in 20-30 years. When I shared this insight with one of the Institute's now Co-founders, and at the time Center for Spiritual Living minister, he said, "you know, you don't have to wait 30 years to get started on this idea. If you started today what do you think would exist 30 years from now?" As he finished his comments I sat silently. I had resolved to work with this wholly idea. AND here we are...I look forward to sharing and participating with you as this journey unfolds.
