We have been taught very little about the power of the subconscious mind. If used properly, it is one of the most powerful tools for creating and designing the reality we want to see manifested--balanced and harmonious relationships with administrators, parents, co-workers, or students. The subconscious mind works for the conscious mind and is on duty 24/7. The subconscious is very literal. For example, if you continuously say, “I don’t want any bad students,” life will continue to bring you what you consider to be bad students as that was your focus. For the record, I don't believe there are bad students, just people who make poor choices and sometimes use bad judgement. These are children who happen to be experiencing the natural learning process. I never allow my students to refer to themselves as bad. I make sure they distinguish between the action and who they are. As an educator, emphasize to your students that poor choice doesn't have anything to do with who they truly are. Try to separate the action from the person. "Criticize the deed, not the doer."
The subconscious mind is like the hard drive of a computer. Whatever thoughts the conscious mind focuses on--whether positive or negative--are downloaded on the hard drive of the subconscious mind. Everything you have heard, learned, seen, and felt is programmed and stored in your subconscious mind. Whatever is programmed in the subconscious is manifested externally through people, situations, and circumstances. The inner picture always becomes the outer picture, no exception. Be a conscious programmer. Be conscious of what you are programming into your students' minds because it is forever imprinted and they are, therefore, forever impacted. Also remember that little people will invariably become big people. It is very difficult work to destroy those negative and destructive subconscious tapes. Be intentional and conscious about programming your students’ hard drives with things that are good, lovely, empowering, harmonious, and constructive.
